Spotlight: Water For Elephants (Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon, Christoper Walts)

Hello everyone, I have a new review up as I went to the movies yesterday. The movie I saw was Water For Elephants, which is a drama and is based off of the novel of the same name. Let’s get into the review!

This movie is based on a novel of the same name, Water For Elephants, which was written by Sara Gruen. This movie was directed by Francis Lawrence and distributed by Fox 2000 Pictures. Lawrence has only directed three movies but other than this film, he has directed the amazing I Am Legend and Constantine. Robert Pattinson plays the main male role, Jacob Jankowski and he is not that bad in this movie. I know many hate him because of Twilight, but other than that annoying series he is a good actor. Reese Witherspoon (Walk The Line, Legally Blonde) plays the main female, Marlena Rosenbluth. Playing a very cruel part, as he is known for, Christoph Walts (Inglourious Basterds) plays the part of August Rosenbluth. Hal Holbrook is also an actor in the movie as he plays the older Jacob Jankowski.

The movie starts off with Jacob Jankowski going through his schooling to become a veterinarian but finds out his parents have died and he is forced out of his home. To try and get somewhere in his life, he leaves town and jumps on a train. This train is a train of fate as he ends up jumping onto a moving circus act. He joins the circus company as a veterinarian and grows a love interest in Marlena Rosenbluth, although she is married to August Rosenbluth. The circus continues and the main attraction loses a horse due to illness. August eventually buys an elephant to replace the main act and things go downhill from there as Jacob sees the animal cruelty he gives out. August eventually learns about Jacob and Marlena’s relationship and becomes angry about it and that’s all I’m going to tell you.

Water For Elephants is a very well written drama. Although it is based off of a novel, it is a good film. The actors played there parts really well and I was really into this movie. The only parts I did not like was Christoph Walt’s scenes of animal brutality, as he makes these parts feel so real. My jaw even dropped that’s how good this movie was at making thing feel real. Robert Pattinson is good at acting, excluding Twilight, and I hope he continues to better himself as an actor. If I had the time to read more, I would read this novel as well. For those of you who are undecided on if they want to see this movie or not, I would go see this movie as it is an amazing movie. I give this movie a 4.5 out of 5.
